SAG Awards Red Carpet

There were some good looking dresses on the red carpet tonight at the 2011 SAG awards but there were a lot of dresses that I did not like! Maybe it's just me but I was kind of disappointed at the lack of amazing dresses. Although there were a bunch of things I did not like, the Glee girls did not disappoint! I love all of the neutral colors. Mila Kunis looked amazing as well in a pop of color!

Guilty Pleasure

I am one of those people that loves to watch TV shows. It doesn't take much to get me sucked into a show and I love watching marathons, especially on a rainy day. I'm almost embarrassed at the amount of TV I watch so please don't judge! I have my list of staple shows that I watch every week but not included in that list are the trashy TV shows that are major guilty pleasures. This list is really embarrassing! It includes: Teen Mom 2, Jersey Shore. I don't usually watch these shows on a weekly basis but I catch up on the drama whenever they are on. The amount of drama that is on these shows is amazing, I could never function normally if my life was that chaotic and crazy. But I guess that is what makes for good TV.
Let's just talk about Teen Mom 2 and Jersey Shore for a second. I'm not sure if the drama involved in these shows is real or MTV created but whatever it is, its insane! Those poor teen moms struggle & don't understand what it takes to be a good parent. One of the moms from season 2 Jenelle is from Oak Island, NC which is about 20 minutes from my hometown. It's almost embarrassing to watch how horribly she talks to her mom who is only trying to help. I know if I ever talked to my mother the way Jenelle does hers, I probably wouldn't be alive. (Not really, but still my parents always demanded that I respect them no matter how unhappy I was with whatever was going on). There has been a bunch of talk about MTV glamorizing the lives of these teen moms and how it makes being a mom look easy. I think if people actually watched the show and followed the story lines they would see that there is no glamorization. These moms struggle financially, fight with their parents and baby daddy's and most don't graduate high school. Now maybe they shouldn't be on a bunch of magazine covers but hey, they've got little mouths to feed!
Jersey Shore is another train wreck of a show but it sucks me in every time because I always just want to know how it ends. The last episode I watched, Snooki went to work drunk and then left work to drink more and ended up getting arrested for drunk & disorderly. The guys hook up with girls every night and sometimes there are even more than one couple in a room hooking up. This lifestyle is so the complete opposite of my life so maybe that is why it is interesting. The girls may not be the classiest people on the planet, but when you take them out of the shore and dress them up nicely, they are all actually really gorgeous!

What are your TV guilty pleasures & how do you feel about these shows?

What I'm Loving Wednesday

I'm trying something new and linking up with Jamie at This Kind of Love for "What I'm Loving Wednesday". I've seen so many other people do this post so I'm going to try it as well!

Today I am loving Target because they had silicone muffin pans for $2.50 and they are a really pretty lavender color. I love silicone baking stuff because the cake just slides right out and it's super easy to clean!

I am also loving my Chick-Fil-A calendar I got for Christmas. Coupons galore and it's helping me organize my life.

My UGGs are another thing I am loving today because it is raining and cold and they are currently keeping my feet warm and dry.

Also, I am loving that mine & B's anniversary is next Tuesday and I am getting super excited about Valentine's Day.

What are y'all loving today?

Style Icon: Reese Witherspoon

I think if I had to choose any celebrities style, it would have to be Reese Witherspoon. She always looks classy and put together whether she is casually running errands or on the red carpet. Here are a few of my favorite looks of hers:

Weekend Recap

This weekend was fairly busy but included a lot of fun times with good friends. Friday was spent shopping and then some girls, B and I all went downtown for a bit. It was absolutely freezing, which makes it really hard to get dressed to go out because you don't want to carry around a jacket all night. I am definitely looking forward to warmer weather! Saturday was my first day of work. Instead of trying to find a new restaurant to work at, I just went back to the Outback I worked at last year to save time training. I've worked for Outback since high school so it's familiar and I don't really have to think at work, which could be good or bad? But my first day back was good, it was strange feeling like a new person in a place I feel so comfortable at. All the people I hadn't met were super nice and we were busy which made time fly by. Somehow throughout the night I lost my voice! Not really sure how or why because I don't feel sick besides this cough I have but I definitely can't talk! Today was spent relaxing and I tried my best to not talk as much as possible. I also worked again tonight. Hope everyone else had a wonderful and safe weekend!

PS- if anyone knows of any remedies to recover my voice please share!

Ice Day

In preparation of the huge supposed snow storm we were supposed to get, Monday night my friend Hayley and I went grocery shopping and stocked up on lots of food. We planned the weeks dinner menu, chili, tacos, pizza, and spaghetti. Last night we celebrated hopefully not having class today. We woke up this morning to a layer of ice covering everything, and no snow. Class was cancelled and today was spent being lazy on the couch and organizing Hayley's room and watching the ice slowly melt away. We were supposed to get up to two inches of snow from this latest storm but only ended up getting a tenth of an inch of ice. Which cancelled classes. And I am completely okay with that. Although I was very unproductive today, tomorrow needs to be better. I need to prepare for my anatomy class and print out lecture notes and slides and study and do my laundry and a million other things. I hope everyone else enjoyed their snow/ice day!

Ooey Gooey Butter Cookies

I got this recipe from Paula Deen a few years ago and have made these cookies every Christmas since. They are amazing and delicious and you can't just eat one. Paula's recipe calls for chocolate cake mix but I substitute devils food cake mix for a different flavor. Also, if you are making these use a stand mixer and not a hand mixer. I burned up my hand mixer one year trying to make them because the batter gets really thick.

Ingredients:
1 box of devils food cake mix
1 egg
1 8oz brick of cream cheese
1 stick of butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Confectioners sugar

Directions:
1. Let cream cheese and butter soften to room temperature
2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
3. Beat cream cheese and butter together using stand mixer until smooth
4. Beat in the egg
5. Beat in the vanilla extract
6. Beat in the box of cake mix
7. Let batter refrigerate for two hours to firm up (I usually forget to do this and they turn out fine)
8. Roll batter in tablespoon size balls and then roll them in confectioners sugar
9. Place the ball about two inches apart on cookie sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes
10. Cool cookies then dust them with more confectioners sugar

The mess the batter creates

Fresh cookies out of the oven

A Book Suggestion

Lately everyone has been posting all of their 2011 book suggestions and the books they plan on reading this year. I haven't compiled a whole list of books yet but there is one series that I would suggest to anyone. The Alex Cross book series by James Patterson is excellent. It's a murder mystery, detective work, police kind of series but once you start reading, you can't put them down! There are currently 16 books in the series and I am now on book 7. For a complete book list in order check out this website.

New Semester

I returned back to NC today after spending three weeks in SC with my family. I am glad to be back to my apartment so that I can get back into my routine with friends and school but I am also sad to leave my family and home. The new semester starts for me in just two days, and I have to say that I am sort of excited. Due to my unfortunate choice of a professor last fall, I am retaking Anatomy & Physiology 1 with a different professor that I hope will be better. I am most excited about this semester because Anatomy 1 and 2 are really the only things holding me back from applying to nursing school. Doing my pre-requisites is fun but I am so ready to get into the program. I've got a big to-do list to accomplish tomorrow before my class starts and I've unpacked 8 out of the 9 bags I managed to bring back from home. (I really need to improve my packing skills, it's quite exhausting hauling everything up three flights of stairs to my apartment) Hope everyone is enjoying the new year and getting ready for school!

Resolutions

It's that time again, the start of a new year and new adventures. Every year I make some sort of resolution and like majority of the population I don't follow through. This year I plan on keeping my resolutions simple so hopefully I will be able to fulfill them. Here is what I've come up with so far:

- live healthier

- be content with what I have

- be more spontaneous, travel more

- focus more on the "now" & not so much the "future"

- pay more attention to my blog and keep writing

For now I think these are plenty of things to keep up with and work on! I hope everyone had a fabulous and safe New Years Eve!
